FOLK ARTCARICATURESSOUTH CAROLINA ART
Rom Webster

“Every piece of folk art we create is just another way of telling the story—sometimes with words, sometimes with lines, and often with a smile.”
At Reach One Media, storytelling is at the heart of what we do. Sometimes that story shows up as words. Sometimes it sneaks in as a smile. And more often than not, it arrives wearing ink, color, and a slightly crooked grin.
As we begin this new season of blogging, our first task is to introduce the artwork that will be rolling out of our creative world in the Bull Swamp. It’s art that celebrates people, places, faith, and the quiet humor of everyday life. Various pieces of artwork will appear on our partner sites—Palmetto Places (sctowns.org) and Catholic Roads (catholicroads.com)—and many of these pieces will also be available as greeting cards, birthday cards, keepsakes, and small treasures in our Etsy store too.
Think of the blog here on Reach One as the front porch to a digital, folk art studio. The art lives inside… and you’re always welcome to stop by and look around.
A Few Styles You’ll Be Seeing Around Here
🌴 Palmetto Silhouettes
Bold, simple, and unmistakably South Carolina. These black-and-white silhouettes highlight landmarks, towns, churches, bridges, and marshes—often framed by that familiar palmetto shape. Clean lines. Strong contrast. Timeless charm.
Perfect for postcards, local keepsakes, and “I know exactly where that is” moments.
😄 Good Humor Cards
These are the cards that make people chuckle before they even finish reading the words. Light-hearted, friendly, and just a little bit corny—in the best possible way. Think everyday wisdom, gentle truth, and humor that feels like it came from someone who knows you.
Great for birthdays, encouragement, and those just because days.
🌊 Salt Watercolors
Soft, expressive, and intentionally imperfect—these watercolor pieces lean into atmosphere rather than precision. Marshes dissolve into sky. Churches rest quietly in light. Edges fade like memory.
These pieces often become keepsake cards, small prints, or quiet moments of pause in a noisy world.
🖋️ Comicstrip Caricatures (Our Favorite)
This is where our hearts really beat a little faster.
Comicstrip-style caricatures—simple lines, expressive faces, and storytelling baked right in. Sometimes it’s one panel. Sometimes it’s a whole strip. Always it’s about people: who they are, how they live, and the joy (and chaos) of being human.
You’ll see these pop up everywhere—from blogs to cards to special projects—and yes, they tend to talk back to you.
