Biblical Basis

“Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.” (Matt 25:40)

Before we explain how to create your own “Reach One Bags,” let’s lay a foundation. It starts with Jesus Christ. Our Lord clearly made the connection between the weakest and most vulnerable in society and Himself.

At a practical level, each time we stop at a traffic light or come up the ramp from an Interstate to encounter someone begging, something amazing and supernatural is taking place. If our Lord is to be believed (and He is), when these things occur, we’re actually coming face-to-face with our Lord.  And what we do or fail to do for them is also what we do (or fail to do) for Jesus.

This is some very important stuff!

By the way, if you read the whole passage (Matt 25:31-46), it seems to say (very clearly) that this is the criteria by which The Christ will judge who is with Him and who is not at the end of the age.

Jesus died for all of us. He paid the price for all sin. We can believe that because of the blood He shed on the cross at Calvary, our sins are forgiven. Yet, it seems that our work here on earth is not yet complete.

We must love God and love our neighbors (Mark 12:30-31). And we must serve the least of these (Matt 24:45). Whatever your belief is about that final judgment, you can be sure that loving others and serving them will be important to Jesus!
